Are These Workshops For Me?

These workshops are suitable for anyone who lives in a body! Hoorah!

You might be drawn to these workshops because you are wanting to learn ways of drawing on the deep wells of biological intelligence that is inherently with in you.

You might be looking for opportunities to expand your range or interested in discovering ways of doing things that feel more easeful and aligned with your needs.

These workshops may not be suitable for you if you are looking for a therapeutic process. These are experiential learning environments, where focus is assisted self study.  Whilst this work may have therapeutic benefit, it is not a replacement for therapy.

"We must risk delight.

We can do without pleasure, but not delight. Not enjoyment.

We must have the stubbornness to accept our gladness in the ruthless furnace of this world."

– Jack Gilbert

Somatic Resources for the Darker Months

We are a species who has mostly forgotten how to hibernate.

When we go into the darker period unprepared, trying to push ahead with our usual way of doing things, it can feel constricting and pressurised. Like there is a diminishing of available space.

How might we instead, soften into the darker months and find resource there too?

In this workshop, you will encounter practices that will gently support you to navigate  your winter with more ease, spaciousness and enjoyment.

WHAT YOU WILL GET

  • Some easy to learn home practices for supporting greater agency over the winter.
  • Your own bespoke inner tool kit for navigating the darker months.
  • Basic knowledge about embodied psychology and how it relates to earthing.
  • Basic education of how the Nervous System works in relation to this theme.
  • A re-membering of the planetary rhythms, how it relates to being in a body in the modern context.
  • A recording of the whole workshop, plus itemised practices you can download as audio files, for offline use.

Coming to Quiet

We are a species who have largely forgotten how to settle our nervous systems.

Our systems are designed for short bursts of intense activity interspersed with generous periods of recuperation.

We are built to fluctuate easily between these two states.

When we push ourselves onward, without carving out space for rest, our energy can get stuck in high adrenaline peaks and/or exhaustion.

We can feel wired and tired.

Settling down is an art!

What might it be like to instead intersperse our busy-ness with nourishing non-doing rest?

In this workshop, we will explore somatic practices to help you develop a relationship with coming to quiet, during both your waking hours and when you are preparing to sleep.

We explore practices to help you drop into the resourcing aspect of your parasympathetic nervous system, inviting moments of deep embodied peace to create a more restful rhythm in our lives.

We explore pathways into settling yourself when you are in the thick of intensity and also ways to settle yourself when you are wanting to switch off at the end of the day.

WHAT YOU WILL GET:

  • Some easy to learn home practices for supporting greater agency over settling your nervous system when you want.
  • Your own bespoke inner tool kit for bringing yourself to quiet and rest, whether you are in the midst of a situation or heading to bed at rest time.
  • Basic education of how the Nervous System works in relation to this theme.
  • A re-membering of the medicinal qualities of darkness and how it relates to being in a body in the modern context.
  • A recording of the whole workshop, plus itemised practices you can download as audio files for offline use.

Resourcing Yourself to Meet the World

The world can be a tricksy and demanding place. Stepping out into it can be daunting. How can we prepare ourselves to do it with grace?

We are a species who are living in demanding times, with multiple distractions and pulls on our attention.

We have come away from our natural cycles of activity and rest. Our technology is often the first thing we look at in the morning, meaning we’re in the thick of the action before we’ve even oriented ourselves to being fully awake.

We also tend to skate over transitions between being one place and another. Assuming they will just take care of themselves. What if we were to also take care of how we are doing the transitions.

What might it be like to have a few easy practices for building your readiness for this? Practices to help you find yourself before the demands of the world find you first?

In this workshop, we will explore neurobiological practices to help you develop a relationship with the transition between being in and being out. Supporting you to step out into the world in touch with your power, goodness and agency.

You will learn easy ways to help you to ground yourself, get centered, and have a sense of your personal boundaries and uprightness.

Then you will be invited into a practice around curiosity, harnessing a natural upswell of forward momentum to take you out into the world with energy and ease. Here you will be harnessing the medicine of your sympathetic nervous system that handles your get-up-and-go. You will be embodying the ‘Spring’ of your day, harnessing this energy of beginnings and emergence, but rooted in your agency.

WHAT YOU WILL GET:

  • Some easy to learn home practices for supporting greater agency and choicefulness.
  • Options for how to prepare yourself well to meet life's daily demands.
  • Your own bespoke inner tool kit for feeling upright and in your embodied dignity no matter what situation you are preparing to face.
  • Basic education of how the Nervous System works in relation to this theme.
  • A recording of the full workshop, plus downloadable audio recordings of the drop in practices, for offline use.

Daring To Be Delighted: Cultivating Joy & Letting Your Light Shine

We are a species that has a complicated relationship with feeling good. We may feel guilt, or that it’s somehow inappropriate to feel and express joy, when faced with a world that is in pain or struggling. Yet joy and delight are fundamental to our enjoyment of being alive.

Remembering how to be a conduit for joy and delight can give permission for others to feel their delight too. Allowing our own joy can light up rooms in a world that desperately needs more rooms to feel lit up.

True delight is deeply infectious.

We may feel the expansion of joy, but have no idea how to contain, grow and follow these energies. So, we can go back to flattening our emotional range and living with the feeling that we’re missing out on something vital.

If you are curious about discovering where your ecstasy and wonder live. If you are longing to allow a more full expression of yourself - to sing, to dance, to roar, to play, like the wild creature you - in essence - already are, then this workshop might be for you!

If you have ever been told you are too much, too little, too loud too soft, too expressive, too small, too intense, too quiet, too excitable, too sensitive, too fragile, too, whatever you are is very welcome here.

Libido = Creativity = Life and sometimes we need to remember how to orient towards our own enjoyment or life can get very flat and dry. Enjoyment is as natural as the air that we breathe and our birthright as sensory beings.  What if joy is just as valid and important visitor as any of the other feelings? A golden crumb on a trail that signals you might be on to something enriching and enlivening? Let's restore this vital and life bringing resource to it's central place as a guide for the Soul?

In this workshop we play with indentifying this beautiful resource that is already in us, being in the fullness of ourselves, and then offering it out to the world as radiance.

Let us step out into the sunshine together and dare to allow delight!

WHAT YOU WILL GET

  • Some easy to learn, take home practices for easing yourself into hosting joy and pleasure.
  • Your own bespoke inner tool kit for cultivating more capacity to be in delight.
  • Turning enjoyment into creative expression.
  • Basic knowledge about embodied psychology and how it relates to earthing.
  • Basic education of how the Nervous System works in relation to this theme.
  • A recording of the whole workshop, plus itemised practices you can download as audio files, for offline use.

Creating from Fullness, Cultivating From a Spirit of Plenty

Around the late Summer transition, our species has traditionally given thanks for the gifts of Summer, and aimed to store and transmute these expansive energies into resources to take us through to the cooler months. Bottling, weaving, folding in, taking in deeply what has been given, with an enquiry as to what we might produce ourselves.

Some of the heat and excitement has gone out of things and there is an invitation to consolidate, to integrate and to harvest. This threshold season often feels like a return to something more regular - a clarifying and freshening. From the more de-focalised  haze of Summer, how might we gather our focus a little more inwards and begin to tend to what wants to be made? How might we intentionally invite in the gifts of Summer into this next cooler phase?

In this workshop, you are invited to create a resourcing map of your personal harvest of the Summer. A collection of touchstones to continue to feed you through the Autumn.

From there, you are invited into a creative process to explore what wants to be cultivated from this place. Bring an idea for something you want to grow, create or cultivate - anything at any point in the gestation process. We deepen into relationship with its wisdom and unique voice as an already living thing.

WHAT YOU WILL GET

  • Some easy to learn home practices for creating from a living, inspiring treasure trove, rather than the blank page.
  • Your own bespoke inner tool kit for more fully receiving the spirit of plenty and then exploring how it wants to be shaped into form.
  • Your own bespoke inner tool kit for feeling steady, centered and able to hear the voice of your creative project.
  • Basic education of how the Nervous System works in relation to this theme.
  • A recording of the whole workshop, plus itemised practices you can download as audio files, for offline use.

Being Well When the Weather is Wild

At this cusp between Autumn and Winter, our ancestors would mark the transition from the end of the Harvest, into a more incubatory phase. This turning towards darkness was also a time where the veils were thought to be thin - more aware perhaps of death, transitions and endings. The Otherworld would be celebrated with feasts and celebration on Hallow’s Eve.

This season can be rich in personal meaning, whilst also presenting us with unique challenges. How do we deal with the encroaching dark, the penetrating cold and the wilder weather? How do we tend to our needs in the darker months? How do we prepare ourselves to spend more time indoors with people?!

It can be tempting to pull away from contact, or to handle the ‘too much-ness’ by cutting things abruptly when we are beyond our capacity, but what if there were other ways to interact with the world? Perhaps there might be a third, more satisfying option?

In this workshop, you are invited to develop a sense of different kinds of somatic boundaries - the energetic or numinous kind, the social kind, also - and perhaps not separately - the territorial kind.

We explore tools of sensing your limits - how does your body communicate a sense of capacity, or ‘enoughness’?

What might it be like to have a responsive and lively boundary that keeps in what you want in, and out what you want out? And how might that impact your relationships?

Let's explore!

WHAT YOU WILL GET:

  • Some easy to learn home practices for different ways to strengthening your sense of embodied boundaries, and a sense of how to find your edges and limits.
  • Your own bespoke inner tool kit for helping you to communicate and interface with the space and requests of the other, while holding yourself steady.
  • Your own bespoke inner tool kit for setting the scene for generative and creative expression of needs, wants and choices, that honour the personhood of self and other.
  • Basic education of how the Nervous System works in relation to this theme.
  • A recording of the whole workshop, plus itemised practices you can download as audio files, for offline use.

About Your Teachers

Your Stewards for these Journeys

Hello!

We are Kate & Rachel.

We are two somatic practitioners who are passionate about supporting you towards a richer experience of aliveness.

We do this in various ways, utiliseing many different approaches, but the common thread is we start with the knowledge that your nervous system is wise and you are already resourceful, creative and whole.

Somatics is a body of work that is interested in your unique lived experience. You might think of it as a way of being with ourselves in presence. It assumes that we are a whole creature experiencing ourselves in many aspects. We are a human being and doing, we are a human feeling, sensing, perceiving and of course also thinking.

Somatics welcomes all of these aspects of experience.

We will be your guides for this workshop.

Kate is a highly experienced body psychotherapist, body oriented coach and artist. You can find more about Kate's private practice here at Body Mind Somatics

Rachel is a somatic coach and trainer of coaches. She is also a Feldenkrais practitioner and artist. You can find out more about Rachel's private practice at Vibrant Body.

Together they are writing a book.

These are the first of a series of public workshops they have run, bringing some of the goodies from their book directly into your hands.
